Wednesday, Aug. 27: The UNCG Career Services Center will hold a part-time job fair from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Aug. 27 in UNCG's Elliott University Center Cone Ballroom. Tuesdays: As a result of its new community partnership witht the Greensboro Central Library, Professionals In Transition (PIT) will now meet every Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Cultural Center located at 200 N. Davie Street in Greensboro. PIT, a nonprofit organization, was founded in 1992 and has assisted more than 3,000 unemployed or underemployed people. PIT also meets ever Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the American Red Cross building in Winston-Salem.

Job Skills/employment Organizations

New Choices -Strategies for Success. The Women's Resource Center offers a 40 hour pre-employment program designed for women aged 24-64 who are divorced, widowed, separated, or housewives who have been dependent on the income of another family member which is no longer available to them. Displaced homemakers experiencing difficulty obtaining or upgrading employment will benefit from this program. Upon completion participants are eligible for financial assistance towards further training such as GTCC Quick Jobs. Financial assistance towards childcare and transportation is available for eligible participants. Job Search Skills Workshop — Participants learn the latest skills required for a successful Job Search including preparing resumes and applications, interview skills, job contacts including Internet postings. Participants are alsointroduced to valuable services available through Job Link and GTCC. The workshop is free to qualified individuals. Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon at JobLink, 303 N. Raleigh St., Greensboro and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon at Employment Security Commission Office, 919 Phillips Ave., High Point.

Pathways To Employment — GTCC provides training in the latest skills required for a successful job search in today's workforce. Participants can receive assistance in creating or revising resumes and cover letters, working on interview skills and tending to job applications. Participants are guided through materials that discuss the connection between interests and job performance. Career interest inventories aregiven and reviewed and then explored on the Internet. his training is valuable to job seekers who are looking for ways to enhance their job search skills and/or to retool their careers. Pathways To Employment is free to qualified individuals. Classes are held Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon at JobLink, 303 N. Raleigh St., Greensboro.

Goodwill Industries' Community Resource Center — Located in Reidsville, the center provides services for individuals seeking employment opportunities and training to boost employability. Services are available for a wide range of people living in and around Rockingham County. Classes and training are offered free to anyone unemployed seeking employment, or to individuals who are under-employed seeking living wages. Services include workshops; computer labs with classes and tutorial software; Internet for job seeking; Career Counseling and Resume Assistance; GED classes; Human Resources Development classes; and classes to help with personal finances during times of unemployment/underemployment.
